Working for yourself sounds great, but it’s not for everyone.
I’ve been a business and wellness coach for over a decade and a half and over the pandemic, I decided to formalize myself and my team’s expertise and bring it all to life as The Coaching Company.
The business is based on a simple and straightforward idea that coaching should be accessible to all; that’s why I decided to use a membership-based business model. So far, it’s been working out really well.
But that’s not to say there aren’t challenges with launching a business during a pandemic. Here are a couple things to consider if you are thinking about launching a business during this time.
So how do you know if you should start your own business? Here are three things to consider before jumping in…
Do you have a 'why'?
Being an entrepreneur has many twists and turns so remembering why you started will carry you through. It’s important to understand your ‘why’ before you begin. Equally, you must be deeply connected to it. A lack of passion will make your product or service feel inauthentic so think long and hard if you really want to eat, breathe, and sleep your business — because that’s what it takes to be successful.
Can you handle uncertainty?
Even if you master your customers’ pain points, have a strong connection to your why, understand the competitive landscape, and have a solid business plan, surprises will happen.
Ask yourself if you can pivot, adapt, learn, and change course — all while moving forward. Every entrepreneur should have resilience-building skills in their back pocket because change is the only constant.
Can you stick to something from the long run?
Goals without repetitive action are just a dream. It takes many micro-movements, repeated over time, to get mega-outcomes. If you’re deterred or distracted easily, don’t give up, just get an accountability coach! In my business, The Coaching Company, we offer Membership-Based Accountability Coaching that will help you build (and actually follow) a roadmap for success, keep you on track, and finally get you to a place where you are ready to start your business. We also have an easy-to-use app and weekly check-in calls with our multidisciplinary coaches.
